Majors Baseball Team Wins First District Championship Since 1967

The 2024 Red Hook/Rhinebeck 12U Majors baseball team won the District 17 championship, in a 5-4 extra-inning game in LaGrange on Saturday, July 6. This is the first local team in this Division to win a District Championship since Red Hook advanced to the state championship in 1967, and the first combined Red Hook and Rhinebeck team to advance.

The Daily Catch published two terrific stories about the 2024:
"In a Nail-Biter, Red Hook-Rhinebeck Little Leaguers Win District 17 Championship; Head to Sectionals"
"Inside the Love of Baseball, Volunteerism, and Sportsmanship That Powers Our Hometown Little League Team"

The Daily Freeman and WDST also covered the team's story.

The 1967 team that advanced included Terry Thayer, the youngest brother of Tim Thayer, the name sake for our annual Thayer award that is given annually to a player who demonstrates excellent sportsmanship. Other local teams to have won District championships include the 2011 Rhinebeck Minors division team, and the 2013 Red Hook Junior division team.

The 2024 Majors baseball team went undefeated in its pool play against Hyde Park and Taconic, and defeated LaGrange in back-to-back games on July 5 and July 6. The team went 1-2 in the Sectionals, and ended with an emotional moment of heartfelt mutual appreciation for family and fans who had gathered to watch their last game against Saugerties.

Our Softball players formed a Majors team with Pine Plains and were bested by LaGrange in the district tournament. Our Minors baseball team also had a strong showing in its District tournament, coming in second to LaGrange.

Congratulations to the players and to the many volunteer coaches who have, over many seasons, supported the growth of these players' skills and sportsmanship.

Registration is open for summer and fall programs.
